Larry Mckenzie San Jose, Cal. 1967 Sedan

Larry McKenzie of San Jose, California owns this beautiful '67. We'll let him tell you about the car in his own words.

I bought this original black paint 67 from Jimmy Roth in November 2001 without the engine and tranny. It was a very nice bug. But since I wanted to run it in the Der Renn Kafer Cup series it needed a pan-off redo. The paint and bodywork were done by Medrano's Body Shop in Los Angeles. The pan, wiring and reassembly were done by the crew at Volks Authority in San Jose (where I work). Most was done while I was off racing at Bonneville. I got back with only two days left before the Bug-O-Rama 50, and worked nonstop to make it on time. The black '67 ran a 12.18 at 105.99 its first pass.

The '67 has a TMI stock red interior with a bucket seat matched in red for the driver. The steering wheel is an Empi GTV with an Empi eliminator shifter. The dash is stock with a radio block off. The body is stock except for a rare '67 convertible deck lid and shaved front blinkers. The front beam is narrowed 3 inches with Avis adjusters and stock drum brakes.
