Jose Medrano Monterey Park, Ca '55 Looker

Jose Medrano, from Monterey Park, California, owns this beautiful and fast '55 Cal-Look Bug, running a tan interior with stock seats, early Porsche alloys, '68 front brakes with dropped spindles and Type III rear brakes.

Jose's is a member of DKP III, and his car sees regular track use and is a frequent competitor in the Der Renn Kafer Cup series. Jose has been running on the doorstep of an 11 second pass for some time, with a best time to date of 12.04 @ 112.6 mph. While Jose's car is definitely running a high state of tune for street car, it is still streetable. Cal-Look.com's Editor had the pleasure of spending a little time behind the wheel of this car, and was impressed with how docile and tractable the car was at lower rpms. All bets are off, however, once the loud pedal is depressed, as the car pushes you back into your seat and screams as you reach for the next gear.

Just be sure to bring race gas, and be careful turning around corners with the spool.

2275: 82 mm DMS welded crank; Cima 94 mm pistons; unidentified Engle cam; ported 044 heads and manifolds by Heads Up Performance with unidentified valves. Dynoed at an incredible 217 flywheel horsepower!

Berg 5 built by Jose's brother, Ray Medrano: Berg lengthened main and pinion shafts; Berg SAW axles; and a spool with Erco gears.
