EDITO : Yeahhh!!! A new year has come and it's time for another long awaited but unexpected update of the Nostalgia corner... And, OMG, what an update it is! I thought it's been a too long period of time since I compiled an article for that particular Old racers section. I know you all love that section, because it's Nostalgia VW at its best!

First, don't miss the updated Audlay CAMPBELL Stutt Bee section with never seen before pictures that will leave you on your knees, believe it or not!

But, this update is mainly devoted to the Anderson Bros Here Comes Da Bug gasser! The Anderson are still around the VW scene and from what I have recently heard, it might be no surpre to see them hiting the european floor next year for attending a major VW show... How cool would it be? Rick & Ron helped me a lot doing this update, providing old pictures, racing memories, various informations and most of all : an intact enthusiasm regarding the good old days at the track racing their bug that still is a big part of their live!

THE PERIOD SMALL WONDER!!!

THE FORGOTTEN PICS...    Small Wonder gasser always played a big part regarding my Nostalgia enthusiasm : first because it's an original race car with history, and second because a french good friend of mine now owns this piece of history. But the story behind is still unclear. So when Bill sent me an email with pictures and facts some times ago, I was over the moon... The car was found in Plainfield (CT). Bill bought it in the early 90's as part of a deal including a 48 chevy and a 55 dodge in Waterford (CT). Read more on the right column...

THE REVELL INCH PINCHER Too    I compiled the first part of the EMPI Inch Pincher story some time (ok, years ago...) and I still need to complete the race car section... But considering Inch Pincher pictures are now everywhere on the Internet, I changed my plans, and decided to add a space for a long time forgotten Inch Pincher : the Baja EMPI one. Another EMPI section... But not just another Inch Pincher one (lol)... Well, you all read the EMPI story here, but what about some period facts regarding the EMPI demo cars? A lot of EMPI cars might be considered as demo cars. After all, the Inch Pincher was the very first and most successful of them all. THE FIRST STUTT BEE... JUST UPDATED...    Just when I thought finding never seen "fresh" old pictures of the first STUTT BEE was quite impossible came some yellowed treasures from the past thanks to Lonnie REED... Lonnie was there back in the good old days, camera in hands and believe me, discovering and sharing those old pictures is a true gift he made! Browsing the Internet since I posted the section helped also as I found some others cool pictures of the very first Stutt Bee gasser! I had to share all of them there of course, just for your viewing pleasure! There is one thing I still didn't found right now: what happened to Audley? Is he still around? HISTORY : EMPI GTV...    Let's begin an all new section devoted to special edition bugs... Of course, the most desirable of them all are the ones modified by the legendary EMPI company... Simply called GTV standing for Gran Touring Volkswagens, those bugs were called Mini Porsche, Small Wonder, Muscle beetle or whatever the name, they were considered as very special cars... "HAPPINESS IS AN EMPI GTV" as they said back in the days... HERE COMES DA BUG!!!    At least... At least... After a way too long wait, that ANDERSON Bros section is now online! Such a tribute should have been made many years ago as Here Comes Da Bug was one of the most successful gassers back in the days, but I was needing more material to make an informative section. Rick & Ron themselves were sooo enthusiastic about my plans that I just kicked up my ass one more time and here it is : the very first part of that legendary gasser history! GET REGISTERED TODAY...

The first EMPI GTV Get together finally happened last summer at EBI, and it was a success! 4 very cool cars were there for this first one : 2 cars came from France, 1 from England and another 1 from Luxembourg. I still need some more pictures (and more time...) to open that all new section! Come one guys : send me pictures & info of your own GTV!   Quick, apply HERE.

EBI #4 MADNESS!!!

Better late than never, right? So here are some pictures of latest EBI to bring back some memories and some summer sun...

THE PERIOD SMALL WONDER!

The forgotten pics...

Bill recalls : "The little VW was sitting in the corner of his garage. The guy I got it from found it in Plainfield (CT) with no motor and front axle. The last guy to race the car was Mike GOSSELIN from Plainfield (CT). The running gear was removed and put in a street car... There was a lot of street racing in those days. The paint was pretty faded when I got it but you could still see a lot of metalflake but it was faded to almost orange. You can clearly see Small Wonder, EMPI, HAULIN Chassis Co, 196 I/G.



Where the original Volkswagon dealers name was there was a blue square covering it with Mike GOSSELIN in the square. I had it in my shop for a couple years just sitting there gathering dust. I loaded it on the trailer and took it to a swap meet in Thompson (CT)... A guy walking by saw the car and I thought he was having a heart attack... He called his friend in Ohio... He picked it up at my house later that week with a little 2-wheel trailer pulled by an old Volkswagon bus. I always wondered what ever became of that little car...".

EMPI DEMO CARS : THE FIREBUG !

The Firebug is one of the most extravagant EMPI bug ever built, this car was a real complete rolling EMPI catalog on its own. Period facts & pictures of that bug are quite rare...

That’s a shame as it was a pure 70’s machinery, with its flamed yellow metalflake paintscheme, and the full EMPI dress-up accessories kit.

RARE EAST COAST GASSERS!!!

Does anybody have any infos on those east coast gassers? Never seen or heard of them before... More unknown to come... Stay tuned!
