VW CLASSIC 2001 It's been a long time (who said decades?) since I was dreaming of walking beetwen entire rows of old VWs under the California sun at Verizon amphitheater (formerly Irvine Meadows). Well, this year was a hit for me as my dreams came to reality. Sun, some awesome women and VW made their way to the Classic for a fantastic Sunday. So my wife and I arrive very early after some search I have to admit, to find queue of VW in front of the gates... Not queue of your average everyday VW, but queue of VWs I only seen on film... Already very excited at 7AM... So, here comes the long awaited pictures. Enjoy...
This two beetles were part of the Parade of Champion held each year in the middle of the show. Some VW running in the new Renn Käfer Cup class were stars of the show. The off-white first one made the cover of an old Hot VW. Details on this car are everywhere and the stance is perfect. Note the gold real EMPI 5's. The red one sports great rims and I guess they are the ERCO ones. I love these rims.
Some D.K.P. cars at Classic.
As usual, D.K.P. car lineup was impressive. This year, a new all red beetle was making his first appearance on show : the '67 of Doug Mische. Regular readers of Hot VWs or Volksworld have already heard of this particular car, for the others, just look at the three pictures above... Only one word can describe this car : AWESOME. Details is everywhere. Doug's a perfectionist... Keith Seume ask in September 01 issue of Volksworld : is this the best California Look beetle ever? For Hot VWs Deano, this could be the finest '67 California Look sedan ever built... Doug is not a newbie in VW as he used to own a stunning Ghia way back in the good old days around 1977 when he worked for Auto-Haus...
Some sano looking old school beetles on the really hot parking... You have to see in person the paintjob under this always shiny california sun...
Two great drags. The chopped one sports an hot engine while the flamed one is owned by well known Koch's shop. I have really no idea from where this last car come from... If any reader could help... E-mail : ldubois@calixo.net |
