WALTER JELINEK '66 Another great car in the Old School register is coming from... euh England... No. United States???No. Japan... No. GERMANY. Yes, all german cars are not German Lookers. The owner of this work of art VW is Walter JELINEK from Bavaria in Germany. Here are the comment from the owner himself. As you could believe it`s hard to have a old-school beetle here in the
German-Looker-kingdom, but it`s nice to kick some type-four-as on street and
strip! The car is a real `66 it was featured in VW-SPEED 8/2000 and a photo-shoot for
VOLKSWORLD was in Spa!
I run a Volkswagen-shop in bavaria(parts and restauration)"The Bug-Box" and at
the moment we do a lot of restauration on pre 67 busses.
I bougt the 66 3 years ago in Vienna.
It was almost rustfree but still in bad shape(painted with a brush).
I put new floorpanhalves in because of the weight and welded the sparewheelwell.
The frontbeam has adjusters welded in and sports a CSP-discbrake.
It has Spax shocks all around.
Adjustable sway-away-springplates in the rear.
The gearbox is a close-ratio 3.88 from Rancho with everything you can do to it and chrommolly axels.Engine is a 2276 we built by ourselves. It features 82mm Scat pro-comp crank with wedgemated flywheel, berg cutch and Kennedy 2100lbs pressureplate. Rods are 5.6" Bugpack. It has total-seal piston-rings and street-eliminator heads which we ported and polished(valves 44/37). Compression is 11.8:1! Cam is FK-8 with magnum strait- cuts and scat 1.4:1 rockers and Berg pushrods.Lifters are CB lightweight. I run 48 IDA`s without aircleaners.
Ignition is a MSD 6AL and I plan to have a two step rev-limiter installed by next year. I forgot the exhaust. It`s a 15/8 header with A1 muffler or duals or stinger.I`ll change it to a 1 3/4 soon.
For steet-use I have 155/70 on 4" sprint-stars and 205/70 on 5,5". For track 135`s on 4" centerlines and 6" Racemasters on 6" centerlines. I also have a pair of 6" Firestones I bought used from Clyde Berg on 5,5"sprintstars.
Rear brakes are stock, but i already have a set of 356B drums wich are beeing polished at the moment.
We measured the car in 4.8 seconds 0-100km/h! Best strip times: 1/8 mile 8.2 at 133km/h, 1/4 mile 12.5 at 173km/h E-mail : ldubois@calixo.net |
